Frigidaire is an American appliance manufacturer that was founded in 1918, and is now owned by Electrolux. Frigidaire popularized the fridge as we know it today. Frigidaire’s brand was so strong Americans referred to their fridge, whatever the brand was, was a Frigidaire. Frigidaire was owned for the longest part of its history by General Motors, from 1919 to 1979, and then it was later purchased by its current parent company, Electrolux in 1986.
Frigidaire, as you might have guessed from its name, started building fridges including the first electric self-contained refrigerator in 1918. It would later expand in all kitchen and laundry appliances over the decades to include dishwashers, ovens, stoves, washers, dryers and other home appliances. Frigidaire works constantly to innovate and develop new features for all their appliances, not just their fridges.
