The name Kelvinator is derived from the sir name of British physicist, Lord Kelvin. The company got its start in Detroit as a manufacturer of electric refrigerators and by 1923, Kelvinator held an impressive 80% of the market. Through a series of mergers, the company diversified into different manufacturing sectors. Like many other companies at the time, they modified factories for the war effort and then resumed the production of home appliances after WWII.
Now owned by Electrolux, Kelvinator refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and stoves/ranges are being marketed as a midrange product in Home Hardware stores across Canada. There are plans to introduce a Kelvinator line of laundry appliances in the near future. Kelvinator has been a staple in the home appliance business and appliance parts are in good supply.
